Joseph Ojile, M.D., CEO of Clayton Sleep Institute, will present a joint symposium, “Sleep Apnea and the Adipocyte: Trends and Treatments,” with fellow sleep medicine experts, Gary S. Richardson, M.D. and David M. Rapoport, M.D., at the 5th World Congress on Sleep Medicine in Valencia, Spain. The Congress is a program of the World Association of Sleep Medicine and runs from September 28 through October 2, 2013. Their symposium addresses the current understanding of the associations of sleep apnea disorder and treatments with obesity.

The World Association of Sleep Medicine sponsors the annual World Congress of Sleep Medicine to advance sleep health worldwide by encouraging education, research and patient care through the exchange of clinical information and scientific studies related to sleep medicine. Drs. Ojile, Richardson and Rapoport will cover the physiology of sleep, sleep disorders and the adipocyte, the effectiveness of CPAP therapy at addressing the underlying obesity factor and whether data on bi-directionality of sleep apnea and obesity support changes in treatment.

“I am excited and honored to present at the World Congress with my colleagues and friends, Dr. Richardson and Dr. Rapoport,” said Dr. Ojile. “Their leadership and accomplishments in sleep medicine exemplify the outstanding professionals participating at the Congress. I look forward to a stimulating and rewarding exchange of ideas.”

Dr. Richardson is the Chief Medical Officer of Circadian Medicine, Inc. and Dr. Rapoport is Professor of Medicine at New York University School of Medicine, where he serves as Director of the Sleep Medicine Program, and is the Director of Research at the NYU Sleep Disorders Program.
