Forcing Air Down Your Throat and Surgery Are Not Your Only Options for Treating Sleep Apnea, New Albany Dental Expert Says

Forcing Air Down Your Throat and Surgery Are Not Your Only Options for Treating Sleep Apnea, New Albany Dental Expert Says

Dr. Ronald Receveur has been serving Southern Indiana and Greater Louisville dental patients since 1981.

New Albany, IN (PRWEB) August 13, 2014

A study published in the Aug. 1, 2014, edition of the journal Pediatrics revealing that overweight children gain weight even faster after having surgery to relieve sleep apnea has put the topic of sleep apnea treatments back in the news, and New Albany dental expert Dr. Ronald Receveur is concerned that many reports may exclude a scientifically proven method for relieving the sleep disorder.

Most news reports about sleep apnea include only medical doctors, who recommend surgery and Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) as the main treatments for sleep apnea. However, highly trained dentists offer a third option to treat the condition – Oral Appliance Therapy.

While CPAP is the traditional method for treating sleep apnea, surveys show that fewer than half of the people use the air pump and mask every night as they are supposed to.

“The guidelines of the Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM) say doctors should give patients with mild or moderate sleep apnea a choice between an oral appliance and a CPAP machine,” Dr. Receveur said. “Oral Appliance Therapy is a very effective way of treating sleep apnea.”

Dr. Receveur is well-known for his dental implant clinic, but he also can give patients an oral appliance for their sleep apnea problem.

An oral appliance for treating sleep apnea is custom-made for each patient, consisting of removable upper and lower trays joined by a mechanism that fit like a mouth guard. The appliance moves the patient’s jaw forward, clearing the airway while he or she sleeps.

Dr. Receveur, who practices in New Albany, Ind., across the Ohio River from Louisville, Ky., offers Louisville cosmetic dentistry services and general dentistry such as teeth cleanings, X-rays, fillings, extractions, root canals, crowns, teeth whitening and veneers.

Dr. Receveur also is an expert in more advanced implant dentistry like All on 4 dental implants, All on Six dental implants, mini dental implants, dental implants in one day, dental implants in one hour, bone grafting and sinus lifts, all with IV sedation dentistry.

Dr. Receveur offers a five-year warranty on all cosmetic and prosthetic work.

Dr. Receveur, a New Albany, native, has been the family dentist of choice for Southern Indiana and Louisville since 1981.

Dr. Receveur was born with a partial cleft palate that left him with a missing front tooth. As a child he “wore an awful removable partial.” As a teenager, Dr. Receveur received a permanent bridge, but his dentist destroyed one of his healthy, natural teeth in the process. These dental experiences helped drive him to find better dental solutions for his patients.

Dr. Receveur graduated from Indiana University Southeast with honors in chemistry, after which he earned his doctorate in Dental Surgery from the Indiana University School of Dentistry.

Dr. Receveur has attended more than 5,000 hours of postgraduate training and even gone to Portugal to study with the best dentists in the world. He has been awarded numerous advanced certifications in Implant, Sedation, Comprehensive, Restorative and Aesthetic dentistry so he may provide the most current dental techniques to his Louisville and New Albany dental patients.
