New iPhone App Helps Home Medical Equipment Providers Communicate with and Efficiently Manage Growing Patient Populations (Sleep Apnea, CPAP, Diabetic, Etc.)

Westminster, CO (PRWEB) June 29, 2012

Healthcare in America is increasingly delivered in the home, especially for chronic conditions such as sleep apnea, asthma, diabetes and COPD. Home Medical Equipment (HME) Providers, the businesses that supply the devices and services these patients need, are faced with the significant challenge of communicating with and managing this growing population of patients. A new iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch app, released to the public by CareTouch Communications on June 15, 2012, aims to solve this problem by helping patients track their therapy, communicate with their HME Provider, and order supplies right from their iOS personal device.

Good patient communications is critical for creating successful outcomes in healthcare and this is no less true when healthcare is delivered in the home. But communications challenges are far greater with home healthcare than they are with in-hospital or in-office care because, by nature, it is often impossible to conduct face-to-face interactions with home healthcare patients.

HME providers are at the center of this challenge because they often manage patients who need equipment and supplies as part of their long-term therapy for chronic conditions. These growing ranks of home medical equipment users require regular follow-up communications and must also replenish their supplies on a regular basis, yet HME providers also face reductions in reimbursement rates that require them to do more with fewer resources.

As HME Providers face these new challenges, they turn to new technologies and services for solutions. “Without the help of technology and specialized services” says Bill McCulloch, President of CareTouch Communications, “it is virtually impossible for HME Providers to profitably manage a large and growing pool of patients.”

To help address this ongoing issue, CareTouch created a free iPhone application that HME patients can use to manage their therapy, order supplies and communicate with their HME provider. The app is the latest addition to CareTouch360, a technology platform that offers multi-modal patient communications and management for HME Providers.

The MyCareTouch app allows device users (iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch) to receive supply replenishment reminders, easily place supply orders directly with their HME provider, track their therapy data and share it with their HME provider, keep their address and insurance information up-to-date, and set their communications preferences.

The MyCareTouch app can be found in the iTunes store where it is available for free download.
