New Port Richey, FL Dentist Offers Free Sleep Apnea Screenings as Part of Awareness Efforts

New Port Richey, FL (PRWEB) October 12, 2012

Cosmetic Dentist, Dr. Donald I. Cadle, Jr., D.M.D., will be holding his second awareness event. “My previous awareness event was very successful,” Cadle said. “The overwhelming response and want to spread as much sleep apnea awareness as possible, is what prompted the second event.” The event will take place on Oct. 17, at The New Port Richey Library, at 6:00 p.m. The Library is located at 5939 Main Street. The event is free and will be open to the public.

As part of the event, Dr. Cadle will be holding a discussion on the symptoms, health dangers and treatment options of sleep apnea. In addition, he will be offering free screenings to the first five pre-registrants. The focus on the event will be the significance of snoring and sleep apnea. “Many people are not aware that snoring can often be a symptom of obstructive sleep apnea,” Cadle said. “Snoring is not only a nuisance to your bed partner, but it can also be a sign of something more significant.”

Sleep apnea can occur in two types: obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) and central sleep apnea (CSA). OSA is the most common form and occurs when breathing repeatedly stops and starts during a sleep cycle. Treatment options for OSA can consist of OAT, CPAP, surgery, and weight loss.

Dr. Cadle is one of the select dentists that are currently working to bring relief to millions of Americans, through the use of oral appliance therapy (OAT). Dentists offer OAT through creating a custom fabricated mouth piece that is similar to a retainer. The mouth piece is custom fit and works by repositioning the jaw and pushing the tongue forward or by restraining the tongue to keep airways open.

“I’m excited to see the increased public awareness of OSA. The awareness was even received to some that did not attend,” Cadle said. “It seems that the previous event was a building block in the community.”
