New US Healthcare Alliance Tackles Sleep Apnea and Vows To Improve CPAP Therapy

Superior, CO (PRWEB) July 14, 2013

CPAP Horizon Project seeks to raise $ 30,000 or more through the crowd funding web site Indiegogo (http://www.indiegogo.com/projects/making-cpap-therapy-better-for-everyone-cpap-horizon-project/x/3364629). The funds will be used to improve the effectiveness of CPAP therapy in the United States.

Sleep apnea is a big problem in the United States… one that directly, or indirectly affects all of us.

Left untreated, sleep apnea can have serious and life-shortening consequences including high blood pressure, heart disease, stroke, diabetes and an increased risk of motor vehicle accidents caused by falling asleep at the wheel.

Besides the health risks, the lifestyle impact of sleep apnea is significant and, sometimes even tragic. It can result in social detachment, short-term memory loss, isolation, depression, and resignation.

Fortunately, Sleep Apnea can be effectively treated through CPAP therapy.

CPAP, which is an acronym that stands for Continuous Positive Airway Pressure, involves using a machine and a face mask to blow a constant stream of air into the patient’s airway, to keep it from collapsing at night.

Although CPAP therapy works, if you look at the big picture, the overall problem is far from being solved.

About 75% of the people who currently suffer from sleep apnea do not even know they have it
About half of the people who are prescribed CPAP therapy fail to stay on it
The businesses that provide CPAP therapy struggle to break even, which means results are likely to get even worse as providers are forced cut back on services in response to cuts in reimbursements
Physicians who prescribe CPAP therapy are not only dissatisfied with the results they are seeing, but have limited power do anything about it unless they become a therapy provider themselves

CPAP Horizon project, a new organization that was founded to address the biggest issues facing CPAP therapy, is taking action to improve results for all stakeholders including patients, therapy providers, and clinicians.

“With results like we are seeing in CPAP Therapy today, it would be easy to assume that the entire system is broken. But that assumption would not be accurate — the diagnostic and therapeutic process that delivers life-changing CPAP therapy is exactly what it should be in terms of the big steps and the players who manage them,” says CPAP Horizon Project Founder, Doug Hudiburg.

The concept behind CPAP Horizon Project is simple. Standing alone, Therapy Providers and Clinicians lack the resources, relationships, and technology to maximize CPAP therapy effectiveness in today’s healthcare environment. But together, the CPAP Horizon Project alliance provides the strength and focus that is needed to bring about positive change in the lives of millions of sleep apnea sufferers.

To fund phase one of it’s public launch, the organization turned to a popular new method of funding called ‘crowd funding’ through a web site called Indiegogo.

Through it’s Indiegogo campaign, CPAP Horizon Project hopes to raise $ 30,000 in phase one funding. According to information provided by the company, the funding will go a long way. It will help fund…

A national sleep apnea awareness and screening campaign
A free web and mobile application for CPAP users called ManageMyCPAP
Development of a health information exchange to facilitate technology integration and data sharing
The legal formation of CPAP Horizon Project as a 501c3 non-profit organization
