SleepTest.com was featured on the Morning Blend a morning TV talk show in Milwaukee on Wednesday the 17th promoting awareness for sleep apnea, airway health and treatment options in honor of yesterday’s Sleep Apnea Day, April 18, 2013. (watch video) The television appearance is part of a national awareness campaign effort that SleepTest has organized to motivate Americans to think twice about the significance of sleep health and to more serious consider the consequences of untreated sleep breathing disorders, such as sleep apnea.

WEBMD describes symptoms of (obstructive) sleep apnea as “waking with an un-refreshed feeling after sleep, having problems with memory and/or concentration, feeling tired, experiencing personality changes, headaches, heartburn, a sour taste in the mouth at night, legs swelling, getting up during the night to urinate, and sweating or chest pain while sleeping.” Sleep apnea is linked to larger health issues such as cancer, type 2 diabetes, heart disease, obesity, depression and sudden death. “Witnessing sleep apnea take its course on a person’s life until the end, pushes me to share sleep information with everyone around me,” said Elias Kalantzis, President of SleepTest.com.

“This is a major problem in our country that not only isn’t going away but is becoming significantly worse every day,” said Kalantzis. SleepTest has teamed up with communities and doctors across the country to provide awareness lectures at wellness centers, libraries, and other community centers. Americans in towns across California, Nevada, Illinois, Pennsylvania, and Florida, will be able to attend awareness lectures at no cost.

Understanding the importance of screening, testing and treatment options is also a priority in the sleep awareness campaign led by SleepTest. “People need to know that there are options for treatment and testing,” added Kalantzis. Some treatment options include weight loss, Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) mask, and oral appliances (similar to dental retainers). Testing can be done through an overnight stay at a sleep lab facility or by using an in-home sleep test monitoring unit.

As part of the goal for each campaign, SleepTest.com is trying to spread awareness through publicity. The goal is to target local and national health publications, local newspapers, television networks and radio stations. Currently, SleepTest.com has been featured in local newspapers across the nation. Sleeptest.com has also been featured on the FOX Morning Shows in Minneapolis and Seattle, FOX newscast and the Morning Blend on ABC in Las Vegas, ESPN radio Seattle, CBS Radio Minneapolis, CBS online Seattle and FOX online, and the Morning Blend in Milwaukee, among others.
