CareFusion, a global corporation serving the health care industry with products and services that help measurably improve the safety and quality of care is now a distribution partner with Better Rest Solutions. The company’s innovative technology brings CPAP sanitization to a whole new level with their automated SoClean™ device. The SoClean sanitizing device automatically completes the daily chore of sanitizing a CPAP mask, hose, and reservoir without any disassembly.

“We are extremely excited to have this relationship with Better Rest Solutions. Their product SoClean is like nothing else on the market. We look forward to building our relationship with them,” said Randy Clare, Senior Consultant, Distribution Management at CareFusion.

With over 12 million Americans diagnosed with obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) and an estimate of millions more whom have not yet been diagnosed, the use of CPAP therapy is growing exponentially. OSA is a syndrome caused by obstruction of the upper airway. It is characterized by repetitive pauses in breathing during sleep, despite the effort to breathe, and is usually associated with a reduction in blood oxygen saturation. These pauses in breathing, called “apneas,” typically last 20 to 40 seconds. Symptoms are wide in range however the most common are unexplained daytime sleepiness, restless sleep, and loud snoring (with periods of silence followed by gasps). OSA can put you at risk for high blood pressure, obesity, stroke, and heart disorders, amongst many others.

Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) devices are the gold standard of treatment for OSA. The CPAP device blows room air into the patient’s airway to support the collapsing structures that result in Apnea. CPAP devices and the required tubing masks and headgear are worn every night. Condensation and humidification buildup with these devices create a bacteria friendly environment. CPAP therapy presents a challenge of cleaning the CPAP equipment properly, to minimize the exposure to pathogens that may result from inadequate cleaning. In order to keep the mask clean, typically the user has to immerse the mask headgear and tubing in water with either vinegar or dish soap then hang to dry. Many sleep technicians recommend the use of vinegar, but it is not entirely effective and has a difficult smell to remove. With the SoClean sanitizing device, that process has been vastly improved, leading to an overall better health and successful patient experience. There are no disposables, liquids or consumables with the SoClean device. The patient simply puts their mask and headgear in the machine and the rest is automatic.

“Our goal here at Better Rest Solutions is to enhance and improve the sleep experience and overall health of those with sleep disorders and the partners that are compliant to their therapy as well. If that requires innovation, we are up for the task,” said Michael Schmidt, President of Better Rest Solutions.

Moreover, he adds, “Quite frankly, there is nothing else like the SoClean available today. It is truly unique. Whether it is for the home user, or in an institutional setting, we feel that it will soon become the gold-standard for CPAP sanitizing.”
