Stevenson Industries Announces FDA Clearance of Its Latest CPAP Sleep Apnea Breakthrough Device – SLEEPSAVER®

SIMI VALLEY, California (PRWEB) February 03, 2015

Stevenson Industries, which for over 15 years has manufactured the CPAP PRO®, the first CPAP delivery interface with no straps or headgear, announced the FDA clearance of SLEEPSAVER®, a mouth-securing device for open mouth breathers who currently use CPAP. Mouth breathing during sleep is the single biggest cause of CPAP treatment failure, as the patient’s open mouth can release vital forced air needed to get the full benefit of a CPAP program. Before SLEEPSAVER®, patients were required to use chinstraps or graduate to full-face masks that covered the nose and mouth in their nightly regimen, dramatically increasing the rate of non-compliance.

The SLEEPSAVER® utilizes an upper and lower boil and bite mouthpiece that is easily made in the patient’s home. Its unique “slip-fit” design allows for slight forward and lateral movement of the jaw greatly improving sleep comfort without losing the necessary closed mouth seal.

“I often deal with patients who have difficulty tolerating nasal CPAP therapy due to inadvertent mouth opening during periods of sleep,” states Dr. Daniel Norman, Diplomat, American Board of Sleep Medicine. “To date, the options that I have available in these cases are the use of chinstraps or adhesive products to keep the mouth closed. Chinstraps are sometimes uncomfortable, bulky, and may irritate the skin. The SLEEPSAVER® mouthpiece is simple in its design, avoids the issues described [above] that are associated with the alternatives listed, and achieves a similar goal in discouraging mouth opening with a nasal mask.” Dr. Chipp St. Kevin Miller of the Southern California Head and Neck Medical Group further explains, “The SLEEPSAVER® mouthpiece is a unique solution promoting closure of the mouth while retaining good mandibular maxillary opposition with ready ability to open the mouth when needed.”

“Unfortunately, determining which patients are mouth breathers is generally not conclusive in the increasingly popular ‘at home’ sleep apnea diagnostic tests,” explains the product’s creator and longtime sleep apnea patient, Joseph Goldstein.” “Most people are in fact mouth breathers and they don’t even know it.” The SLEEPSAVER® is designed to work comfortably with most of the minimally invasive nasal interfaces currently on the market.

SLEEPSAVER® is available by prescription through sleep apnea equipment providers nationwide.

About Stevenson Industries

In 1996, Stevenson’s founder was diagnosed with severe obstructive sleep apnea. At the time, he knew nothing about the treatment for this rapidly growing diagnosis and quickly became disenchanted with a series of hard to fit and torturous masks and headgear. As an inventor and entrepreneur, he created the design and manufactured a revolutionary, superior, and more comfortable nasal interface to be used with all PAP machines. Four years later, the CPAP PRO® was launched and is currently in use by thousands of patients nationwide. The SLEEPSAVER® is the continuation of Stevenson Industries’ commitment to innovate and manufacture the highest quality and most comfortable CPAP products on the market.
