MINNEAPOLIS (PRWEB) November 09, 2012

Life can be hard for people who suffer from Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA), especially those who want an active lifestyle or whose lives depend on being active and getting a good night of sleep. Peter Rowe is one of those people and he recently took the portable Transcend CPAP, rechargeable battery and solar battery charger with him on a trek towards Mount Everest in the Himalayas. Rowe shared his experience with the Transcend CPAP in a YouTube video (visit http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0opX3jjXAhw&feature=share) explaining how easy and convenient it was to use Transcend, even at 16,000 feet elevation.

Peter Rowe is a world-renowned filmmaker, director, actor and adventurer known for his work in exploration and adventure around the world. His recent work includes producing the 39-part television series Angry Planet, which airs worldwide.

Sleep apnea sufferers around the world who use continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) therapy are finding that portability of their CPAP machine is an important factor in getting a good night’s sleep and enjoying an active lifestyle. But, most CPAPs are not portable nor are they designed for an active lifestyle. Only Transcend®, the innovation leader in sleep apnea therapy, brings reliable CPAP therapy where power is limited or not available. Its flexibility and portability provide on-the-go CPAP users with therapy no matter whether they are a mountain climber, over-the-road trucker, boating enthusiast, camper or business traveler.

Rowe used the new Transcend Portable Solar Charger™ that recharges the lightweight, long-life Transcend P4 Overnight Battery™ and the Transcend P8 Multi-Night Battery™, which offers reliable peace of mind and makes life easier for those who travel, like Peter Rowe.

It is estimated that more than 100 million people around the world have obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), according to the World Health Organization. In the United States, OSA is estimated to affect one in four men and one in nine women and more than 23 million working adults. Several studies indicate that up to 80% of OSA sufferers are undiagnosed.

In July of this year, Somnetics launched the Transcend Portable Solar Charger™ designed to recharge Transcend P8™ and P4™ batteries under the sun for reliable CPAP therapy under the stars. Transcend is the first and only CPAP system to feature portable battery power with the option of solar recharging technology. The Transcend Portable Solar Recharger is lightweight, compact and durable (military tested) and provides free power even in low-light conditions. It is ideal for users who travel, camp, and need reliable power wherever they go. The Transcend Portable Solar Charger provides peace of mind during power outages or when power is not available.

About Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA)

Obstructive sleep apnea is a breathing disorder in which there are one or more pauses in breathing or shallow breaths during sleep. Breathing pauses can last from a few seconds to minutes and often occur 5 to 30 times or more in one hour. Typically, normal breathing restarts after the pause, sometimes with a loud snort or choking sound.

For people with sleep apnea, the combination of disturbed sleep and oxygen starvation may lead to hypertension, heart disease and mood and memory problems. People with this condition often move out of deep sleep and into light sleep when breathing pauses or becomes shallow. This results in poor sleep quality and tiredness during the day. Sleep apnea is one of the leading causes of excessive daytime sleepiness and can be a dangerous condition for certain occupations. Sleep apnea also increases the risk of automobile crashes. Sleep apnea can be life-threatening and you should consult your doctor immediately if you feel you may suffer from it.
